The game itself only uses something like small subset of DX3. Recently I wrote a DX wrapper which translates the part of the old DX API required by Klingon Academy to the DX9. So why would NVidia and ATI purposefully neuter their drivers?
I downloaded the latest drivers as of yesterday, and while they certainly helped, yeah, there are still flashes. #3166945 - 12/28/10 05:35 AM Re: Klingon Academyīah! That sucks! >< I guess I could make a dual boot for XP, but that seems like a lot of trouble. So try it in XP with the latest drivers, it should work pretty good though the only thing you still can't enable is the particle effects I think. Yes, I'm bitter, but, I wasn't able to play great classics like Klingon Academy for years. At least, for what it is worth, Nvidia is now trying to co-operate and fix the mess they have made. So, we only have Nvidia and ATI to thank about this.
then, when you update them to the newer drivers, they broke those cards too! How do we know this? Because KA and other DX6/7 games would work perfect on the 7900 GTX series of cards. We've all been pissed off at them royally-as they come up with excuses like-sorry, that is old technology and the newer cards don't support it.
Nvidia BROKE ALL DRIVER SUPPORT for DX6 and DX7 games when the 200 series cards came out, maybe shortly before that.
The Windows 7 drivers, at least, the latest ones, come close to letting you play it but they have this annoying white flickering that we need Nvidia to fix.
